Search Engine Optimization Powerpoint

Here it is Saturday, and I’m putting the finishing touches on a presentation I am giving to my Company next Wednesday during its annual Kick-off. I don’t work for a web company. I work for iAnywhere Solutions Inc., the same place Eric Giguere works by coincidence, the author of Make Easy Money with Google Adsense. I work in technical support. Not the usual tech support you may think of like Dell tech support. Not at all. I support developers, not end-users. Is that any different? Yes, I answer emphatically. My pay-cheque is certainly different than Dell tech support folk. But I digress.

It’s unfortunate I can’t post my presentation here, as per my employment agreement anything I produce during employment is owned by the company. I spent a lot of time putting this presentation together, but not in the normal sense. I didn’t pick the topic and then set out to research it. It was kind of the opposite to that. I have been researching SEO for quite some time now, but not for iAnywhere. I’ve been learning everything I can about SEO to improve my earnings (how’s that for incentive!) in my various blogs on the web. All of my blogs are non-work related by the way. I would never hazard to write about my work. I don’t think that would go over well.

So, with all of this knowledge I decided to volunteer to speak to my colleagues about SEO. I knew my topic was “fringe”. I thought my topic would be denied as not related to work. But what the heck, I was volunteering to bring something to the group that I had to offer from the outside. What I discovered instead was that many, many people were interested in hearing my topic. People from entirely different divisions in my Company. My topic was approved.

I only have one hour to present and 30 minutes to answer questions. There’s no way SEO can properly be understood in that time. What I hope though, is that I merely whet the appetite of enough people to set them on a course of further enlightenment.

Then I will have succeeded.
