Chitika is testing a brand new ad unit call the Related Products Unit.

The related products unit (nicknamed: RPU) is a little ad unit that publichers will have at their disposal that will show related products and offers. You can see how they look on this page.

feedbuzzard was one of the lucky twenty website owners to be selected to test these new ad units. It’s too early for me to be able to comment on the CTR and eCPM of these units but I am optimisitic they’ll do well on my sites which are frequented by shoppers looking for products.

Chitika a couple of days ago introduced a new interactive eMiniMalls Multi Product Unit, allowing publishers to show 4 products at once. By mousing over the images the unit will automatically refresh the description, best deals, etc. As many of you who already have tried know, Chitika ad units tend to suffer from a low click through rate (CTR) and therefore don’t generate enough money for many folks to use them over a Google AdSense ad.

Well, the good news is that these new interactive ads have tripled my CTR (from about .6 % to about 1.7%) and earnings over the old blog banner unit, which it is similar to in size. They’re fun to play with too.

Category hint is a new targeting option by which you can pick and choose from a list of categories supported in the eMiniMalls system. Your selected category will be used as a “fallback” in the event that the system does not find an appropriate product for your preferred keyword(s).

This is a welcome enhancement to many as eMinimall CTR rates tend to be lower than some other PPC systems such as Google AdSense. I’ve always liked the fact that Chitika allows you to steer the ads in the right direction so they match the content of your site. If you have web-coding skills, you can get pretty fancy with the targetting.
